In the view of New Year's celebration, which is held every year on December 31, the Mumbai Police has decided to deploy 25 DCPs, 7 Additional Commissioners, 1500 officers, around 10,000 police personnel, 46 SRPF platoons and 15 QRT teams across the city.

Meanwhile, earlier in the day, the Thane and Navi Mumbai police officials have announced several measures and drives being planned for the New Year’s Eve, which is celebrated on December 31.

This decision has been taken to maintain law and order in the city and to ensure safe and smooth conduct of the celebrations.

In addition to this, with the expectation of people gathering at the Worli Sea Face, Mumbai Traffic police has declared the nearby areas as no parking zone till January 1.

As per the traffic advisory, all types of motor vehicles shall be prohibited from Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Junction (Mela Junction) to JK Kapoor Chowk on both north and southbound roads.

An order issued by Vishal Thakur, DCP (Operations), Mumbai Police said, as reports have been received that due to the situation prevailing in the areas under the jurisdiction of Mumbai Police, it is noticed that use, sale and storage of lanterns during December 31, 2022 to January 29, 2023 in the Mumbai Police jurisdiction may cause grave danger to human life, safety and injury to public property.

An official said, "It is a routine order which is reviewed and issued every 30 days."

It said, it is necessary that some checks should be put on flying lanterns activities, use, sale and storage of them in the Mumbai Police Commissionerate, to prevent the activities of antisocial elements through such type of lanterns during the said period in Mumbai and that immediate action is necessary to prevention of the same.

Besides, last week, the Lonavala police has set strict guidelines for the party or gatherings to avoid any untoward incidents during the festive season at camping and tourists sites.

Moreover, for the benefit of passengers on the occasion of New Year’s, the Mumbai division of Western Railways (WR) has decided to run eight special local train services during the midnight of December 31, 2022 and January 1, 2023.
