MVA Announces ‘Sharad Pawar Gram Samrudhi Yojana’ to Honour the NCP Chief

Ahead of his 80th birthday on December 12, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has launched a new scheme known as the “Sharad Pawar Gram Samrudhi Yojana” with the aim to improve rural development. This move was decided upon by the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA coalition government to honour the veteran politician.

This new scheme will take up some of the works usually conducted through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). 

“We will carve out a few schemes from the employment guarantee scheme and bring it under the umbrella of the Gram Samrudhi Yojana. There will be absolutely no additional burden on the state exchequer. Funds allotted for the schemes under EGS will be utilized for the plan,” an official said.

As per the MGNREGA scheme, the government puts forth a handful of schemes which provides 100 days of daily wage employment to farm labourers. As of now, the department is executing its plans towards social forestry, tackling drought, developing nurseries, deepening wells, as well as the construction of village roads, houses, and toilets. 

An official said that the primary focus of the Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) would be on water resources and its conservation, while the state will widen the scope of both schemes. Further details on the Sharad Pawar Gram Samrudhi Yojana are awaited.
