The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has taken possession of the flat in 'Neopolis' tower in Thane of Iqbal Kaskar, brother of notorious Dawood Ibrahim. The ED had started investigation in this case on the basis of two offences. In it, the case filed by the National Investigation Agency (NRA) against Dawood Ibrahim, Anees Ibrahim, Chhota Shakeel, Tiger Memon and others and another case against Iqbal Kaskar and his associates for accepting extortion was filed by the Thane police.

In the investigation, ED revealed transactions to hide the source of ill-gotten wealth. The officials interrogated Kaskar in February 2022. In it, he gave information about Dawood's criminal activities in India. A charge sheet under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act was filed with the evidence of the Thane police report dated April 2022 after raids were conducted at the houses of the accused. This included relevant sections on extortion and conspiracy under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MoCCA) and the Indian Penal Code.

Iqbal Kaskar, who was deported from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2003, started intimidation in the name of Dawood Ibrahim in India. Dawood, who resides in Karachi, is believed to have links with international terror groups and intelligence agencies, making the case more important from a legal and security perspective. Apart from this, NIA also took action across the country in connection with various activities of Dawood.
