According to reports, it has come to light that a beach party is being organised at Navapur in Virar West on December 31 even though the state government has imposed restrictions on New Year's celebrations amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite not receiving any permission for beach event, organisers are promising live music, food, fireworks, stay in tents and a dance floor, 6 pm onwards on December 31. One of the four organisers of the event has said that the party will go on till 2 am on January 1, 2021. However, the hoteliers claim that the beach shacks are illegal.

Moreover, the organisers have also said that they have been organising parties since December 4 at the Navapur beach but haven’t faced any crackdowns and also assured that nothing would happen in the upcoming events too. Meanwhile, the police said that they will look into the matter.

Besides Navapur, illegal shacks have also mushroomed in other beaches such as Rajodi, Arnala and Kalam.

The Vasai Taluka Hotel Association confessed that they have been operating it without permissions as the hotels are facing great losses. However, all this is done with the knowledge of Arnala Sagari police station.

A group of four organisers has named the place 'Nirvana beach camp' and provided contact details for bookings for 'New Year Camping' on Instagram. Navapur beach falls under the gram panchayat, whose rules are slightly relaxed, said the organisers. On the contrary, various hoteliers from Virar said they have been told by police to strictly adhere to timings.

A senior police official has said that policemen will be posted at beaches in plainclothes to maintain law and order. Every police station has been instructed to keep check on people who have come from outside Mumbai and especially from abroad, and on hotels and the occupants of rented premises.

The Maharashtra had imposed a night curfew from December 22 to January 5 from 11 pm to 6 am in the wake of new coronavirus strain in the European and Middle East nations.
