The University of Mumbai (MU) has announced that starting from the academic year 2024-2025, all 812 non-autonomous colleges under its affiliation will offer four-year degree programmes in BA, BSc, and BCom.

This decision extends the facility to all non-autonomous colleges. Previously, it was available only to the 62 autonomous colleges under MU's jurisdiction. The move also aligns with the New Education Policy (NEP) standards.

Mumbai University has developed a complete curriculum and credit structure for the humanities, business, and science fields. The University Grants Commission guidelines, relevant government directives, and suggestions from the Ravindra Kulkarni Committee report were also taken into account while formulating the four-year degree course.

The aim of this strategic approach is to provide students with cutting-edge, multifaceted, adaptable, career-focused, and skill-enhancing educational options.

To decentralise the implementation process, MU has created a cluster of colleges. Each cluster will be led by a 'lead college', responsible for enhancing the quality of member colleges. The structure encourages resource sharing and promotes a multidisciplinary approach to learning.

MU has also signed memoranda of understanding with several foreign universities, emphasising its innovative initiatives in the globalisation of higher education.

The new framework provides various entry and exit points throughout the four years of the undergraduate degree programme. Students can receive up to 176 credit points for a four-year honours degree, while those opting for a three-year programme can receive up to 132 credits. Each semester will offer a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 22 credits.
