The first general merit list for first-year junior colleges (FYJC) in Mumbai was released at the school deputy director’s office. The list will help students to determine their position in the competition with their scores. However, the first seat allotment admission list will be out on July 5.

The year saw a significant rise in the number of students achieving a good score in both the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate for Secondary Examination (ICSE) results. At the same time, high scorers in secondary school certificate (SSC) examination were also not left behind in the race and increased in number this year.

The minority lists released earlier this month witnessed an increase in the cut-off percentages. Similarly, an increase in the general list cut-off percentages is also on the cards. Cut-offs of popular colleges are unlikely to drop below 90 per cent, even for Arts in the case for a few colleges. Admissions to bifocal seats were granted under the common admission process for the first time by Mumbai deputy director’s office.

In the last few years, migration of students across education boards has reduced. Hence, SSC students may face less competition from CBSE students as many of them continue with CBSE curriculum in junior college.

More than 13,000 students scored higher than 90 percent this year in Maharashtra. As many as 1.31 lakh out of 16.24 lakh ICSE students in the city scored 95 per cent or more. A total of 13 students have featured in the ICSE merit list scoring 99 per cent and above this year.
