The Maharashtra State Skills University in Panvel is set to launch in July, and it will be the first university in Maharashtra to implement the New Education Policy (NEP).

The university aims to address skill gaps in various sectors by offering 21 courses, including BVoc (Vocational) and BTech (Technology) programmes.

Approximately 2,000 students will be enrolled initially. However, the capacity will be further increased to 10,000 students at full capacity, stated the Vice Chancellor, Apoorva Palkar.

A satellite campus will be operational in Mumbai, Thane, Pune, and Aurangabad districts.

The BVoc programmes will last three years, while BTech programmes will last four years. However, it is pertinent to note that this will not be affiliated with any university.

The programmes are designed to address skill gaps in various sectors, including manufacturing, retail, health sciences, mechatronics, and BFSI. The university will open with five schools and 14 departments, and all programmes will be multidisciplinary and follow the national credit regulatory framework.

Mtech in Blockchain, big data, cyber security, industry 4.0, along with business analytics and MBA (innovation and new venture) courses will also be offered.

The courses will include classroom instruction, practical skill-building training, and internships.
