Amid continuous moderate to heavy showers for the past few weeks in Mumbai, Thane and neighbouring cities, it has come to light that the city is likely to see a decrease in the intensity of rainfall over the coming week.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the Konkan belt including Mumbai has been given a green alert (no rainfall warning) Monday onwards, September 19. However, the IMD has also assured that the monsoon has not yet retreated.

Explaining further, official said the weather over the coming week will start becoming drier and the rain intensity will reduce. The moderate showers which the city is experiencing currently will mostly continue for the next few hours but it will witness a gradual decrease.

However, this does not mean that the monsoon is retreating, because usually the monsoon retreat begins from Rajasthan and then the rest of the country follows. The city also witnessed a good air day on Sunday, September 18, due to the rains and speedy winds.

On Monday, September 19, the minimum temperature recorded in Santacruz was 23.3 °C and the maximum was 26.6 °C with a relative humidity of 90%. Colaba experienced a minimum temperature of 23.6°C and a maximum temperature of 30.2°C with a relative humidity of 96%.

Besides, on Sunday, Mumbai recorded an Air Quality Index (AQI) with of 10, while other cities like Delhi, Pune, and Ahmedabad recorded an AQI of 34, 22, and 42 respectively, as per the data from the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).
