As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to start a drive for vaccinating bedridden people at their houses, it has issued a special e-mail address inviting people to share details of such persons who can be beneficiaries of this door-to-door vaccination scheme.

This development came days after the Maharashtra government informed the Bombay high court (HC) that it would soon commence door-to-door inoculation for citizens who are bedridden. Earlier this month, the state government on an experimental basis started with Pune district. However, the BMC too is readying for a similar scenario in the coming days.

As a part of this initiative, the BMC’s health department has now started collating data of those bedridden because of health complications for at least six months and requiring doorstep COVID-19 vaccination.

Accordingly, a proforma for this purpose has been given to the respective wards. The civic body has directed every medical health officer to make door-to-door visits and gather data on bedridden patients. Civic officials said the survey was being undertaken so that in the event of the central government giving a green signal for vaccination of those bedridden, exact data would be at hand.

The citizens are requested to send complete information to an email id -- covidvacc2bedridden@gmail.com – issued by the BMC health department for getting the vaccine for those who are bedridden due to physical/medical reasons including illness.

Citizens can send details like name, age, address and contact numbers on the given id. After the data of all such persons is collected, the corporation will initiate a special drive to cover them.

Earlier, the civic body had already started drive-in centres for senior citizens and people with mobility issues.
