In a relief to the citizens of across the nation, India has crossed the 100-crore vaccination mark today on October 21. With this, it has come to light that Maharashtra ranks second among states that vaccinated the highest number of people.

Meanwhile, this milestone makes India the second country to reach the one billion mark.

The top five states which have administered the highest number of doses are Uttar Pradesh followed by Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

In the ongoing vaccination drive, Maharashtra on October 20 has vaccinated 4,96,699 in 5,082 sessions. According to data released by the government, Maharashtra has inoculated 9,32,02,259 people.

As per the state government data, 3,46,54,882 individuals aged between 18 and 44 years received their first vaccine dose and 1,04,03,667 received their second dose since the inoculation drive for this age group began on May 1.

Around 75 per cent of India's all eligible adult population has been administered at least the first dose and around 31 per cent has received both the doses of the vaccine.

According to Union Health Ministry data, India took 85 days to touch the 10-crore vaccination mark, 45 more days to cross the 20-crore mark and 29 more days to reach the 30-crore mark.

The country took 24 days to reach the 40-crore mark from 30-crore doses and then 20 more days to surpass the 50-crore vaccination mark on August 6. It then took 76 more days to go past the 100-crore mark.
