On Tuesday, January 19, Maharashtra recorded 2,294 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 19,94,977. Currently, there are 48,406 active cases in the state. With 4,516 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 18,94,839.

More than 50 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 50,523. While 2,18,058 persons are under home quarantine, 1,996 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 94.98 per cent, and 2.53 per cent respectively.

Mumbai reported 473 new COVID-19 cases, 486 recoveries and eight deaths on Tuesday, January 19, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,03,621. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 6,654 active cases and 2,84,817 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,257 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 26,23,129 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 146 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,256 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

Meanwhile, India reported 13,823 new cases, 16,988 recoveries and 162 deaths taking the tally up to 1,05,95,660 on Tuesday, January 19. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,02,45,741 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,52,718 in the country. At present, there are 1,97,201 active cases. According to the ICMR, 18,85,66,947 samples have been tested up to January 19. So far 6,74,835 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in the country.
