After Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's directive, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) swiftly completed the resurfacing of the Khar subway on Tuesday, November 28. The subway road now has a new surface made of "mastic asphalt."

The CM's instruction came after his inspection of the BMC's efforts to mitigate air pollution on November 21. During his tour, Shinde found the surfaces of the Khar subway in poor condition and ordered immediate resurfacing. The BMC's HW ward, covering Khar and Santacruz, promptly completed the work within a week.

Shinde was with BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal and other officials. They visited several areas in Mumbai for observation. They looked at the walkways, roads, and dust-control measures in areas like Grant Road, Pedder Road, Malbar Hill, and Andheri East. The CM expressed satisfaction with the BMC's efforts to reduce air pollution.

During his visit to the Joggers Park on Carter Road, Shinde interacted with the elderly. He instructed BMC officers to increase the use of well-equipped machinery for air pollution control and maintain cleanliness in small lanes, roads, colonies, beaches, and nullahs. He also emphasised the routine disinfection of public toilets.

Shinde further asks the city to increase its green cover. He suggested more tree plantations in open areas and between dividers.
