After several delays, the much-awaited 5.5km long promenade along the coastal road will be thrown open for the public on Independence day, August 15.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the promenade on Thursday afternoon, August 14. However, it will be accessible from the next day, 4.30 pm onwards.
This walkway extends from Priyadarshini Park at Breach Candy to Worli, running alongside the coastal road, and includes bike paths, seating spots, and green areas with 300 newly planted trees.

The seafront stretch also includes ornamental and native coastal vegetation, and has been developed as an eco-conscious recreational zone.
The access of the new promenade will be free, and citizens can reach there through new underpasses at four locations - Bhulabhai Desai Road, Haji Ali Junction, Worli Dairy, and Bindumadhav Thackeray Chowk near Worli seaface.
All underpasses include stairways and ramps to ensure accessibility for cyclists and persons with disabilities. Wheelchair access and inclusive design features have also been incorporated throughout the promenade.
Moreover, the Mumbai Coastal Road will be opened for traffic round the clock from From midnight on Friday, August 15, instead of currently from 7 am to 12 midnight, the release said.
