Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray, along with former Mumbai Mayors and the party workers inaugurated the second carriageway of the Delisle Road Bridge in Lower Parel late on Thursday night, November 16.

This took place on the eve of the death anniversary of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. Along with Aaditya Thackeray, party leaders including former mayor Kishori Pednekar and Snehal Ambekar as well as former Worli MLAs Sachin Ahir and Sunil Shinde were also present on the site.

Expressing disappointment over the delay in the official inauguration, Aaditya Thackeray in a post on X shared:

Earlier in the day, while speaking to media, Thackeray had stated that they waited for two days for the load testing and lights on the railway's portion to be done. He had warned that if by Friday, November 17, the civic doesn’t open it, the party, as citizens, will take matters in their hands.

In July 2018, the bridge was closed after an IIT-B report declared it unsafe. The timeline for the new bridge was revised several times. On June 1, one arm of the bridge connecting Ganpatrao Kadam Marg to NM Joshi Marg was opened to traffic. In a strategic move ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi on September 17, the BMC opened a portion of the other arm of the bridge connecting Lower Parel to Curry Road. Despite the construction of the bridge being completely completed, BMC officials remained reluctant about the official opening date of the second carriageway.
