Lok Sabha Elections: BJP MP Gopal Shetty’s assets increase by 65 per cent

After Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Gopal Shetty filed his nomination to contest Lok Sabha elections, it was revealed that his assets have increased by ₹6 crore. Shetty is the sitting MP from Mumbai North constituency.

Earlier, during 2014 LS polls, Shetty declared his assets worth ₹9.5 crore. However, the nomination paper reveals Shetty’s assets to be worth ₹15.78 crore which is a 65 per cent increase. 

According to media reports, while filing the nomination Shetty listed his assets including movable and immovable property along with the savings. In 2019, his assets are worth ₹15.78 crore while they were ₹9.5 crore in the year 2014.

The affidavit filed states that the BJP MP has paid ₹35.99 lakh as income tax from the year 2013-14 to 2017-18. Shetty’s wife has also paid tax worth ₹21.24 for the said period. Shetty has nine cases registered against him at various police stations and are pending in the courts. 

Shetty, a BJP-Shiv Sena alliance candidate, will be contesting the Lok Sabha polls which will be held this month against Congress candidate and Bollywood Actress Urmila Matondkar.
