With the inauguration of the first phase of Mumbai Coastal Road Project and several other projects awaiting the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, once again the clouds of delay seems to be hanging over.

PM Modi's much-awaited visit to Mumbai, Satara and Pune on February 19 has been postponed. The tour, which was organised on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, also included the prestigious Shiv Samman award for the Prime Minister.

However, now it has come to light that while the new date is yet to be announced, he is likely to open the coastal road arm some time this month.

During his visit, the PM was also expected to attend the groundbreaking ceremony of Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) tunnel construction works, launch a women's financial assistance scheme, flag off the integrated trial runs for phase 1 of the Metro-3 corridor between Aarey and BKC, and lay the foundation stone for Thane-Borivali twin tunnels that will pass via Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Initial planned stops included PM's visit to the historic Shivneri Fort in Pune, followed by Aandhali Dam in Satara. Another important event planned during the visit was the Jalpuja ceremony, marking the discharge of water from the Jihe Katapur scheme, dedicated to the PM's guru Laxmanrao Inamdar. He was supposed to be accompanied by prominent political figures like MP Udayanraje Bhosale and Madha MP Ranjitsinh Naik Nimbalkar.

In Mumbai, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and MMRDA officials are struggling to adjust plans due to the postponement. The plan for Thane-Borivali twin tunnels aimed at decongesting Ghodbunder Road also remains uncertain. Similarly, finalising the timing of opening of the Worli-Marine Drive branch of the coastal road is also shrouded in uncertainty despite preparations and announcements by civic chief IS Chahal.
