To make a social impact, several women have started an initiative called Women Climate Collective.

This unique Collective is an online community of 500+ women working in the climate and/or gender ecosystem who are initiating women-inclusive climate action in India.

These women from Mumbai have made a huge contribution towards improving environment and climate crisis:

Heeta Lakhani (Age: 31)
Heeta Lakhani is the Founder & Director of the ClimAct Foundation. She has a Masters of Science in Environmental Studies and Resource Management from TERI University, India. She is a firm believer in the power of youth participation in grassroots and international processes and strives to create change-makers who combat the climate crisis with knowledge-based action. Heeta was introduced to the world of the United Nations Climate Change process at COP21 in 2015 and was the Global Focal Point for YOUNGO for 2020-21. She also co-founded the Youth Negotiators Academy, which focuses on training youth to be effective negotiators in the UN intergovernmental processes.

Neha Naikwade (Age: 28)
A Mechanical Engineer by education, Neha is currently running zero-waste initiatives alongside working with Climate Collective Foundation to support climate tech startups. She has supported more than 140 climate tech startups and 68+ student teams to develop products or services that tackle climate change. She has also guided more than 2000 students on how to start a career in climate tech space. Sharing her insights on women-inclusive climate action, she affirms women’s unique knowledge and experience of resources and the environment which is necessary in the decision-making processes for effective climate action.

Nidhi Pant (Age: 30)
Co-Founder of Science For Society - S4S Technologies, Nidhi works at the intersection of agriculture, gender, energy access and financial inclusion. S4S Technologies converts farm losses and wastes to value-added products for F&B Industry with the help of women farmers and sustainable tech. This resulted in increasing household income for farmers, prevention of food waste and reduced CO2 emissions. She has received several accolades for her relentless efforts to uplift women farmers, including being for Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia and India and winning the Women Transforming India Awards by NITI Aayog & United Nations (UN).

Simran Kapoor (Age: 25)
A resident of Mumbai, a doctor by profession and an environmentalist at heart, Simran aims to revolutionize the way people think about menstrual hygiene and believes that sanitary waste management is a crucial part of combating climate change. She strives to support and promote indigenous groups and marginalized communities, who are the most affected by climate change and lack knowledge of proper methods of waste disposal or are exposed to limited resources for the same. She has worked with several NGOs and institutions as well as with politicians to educate the masses about menstrual hygiene and the plastic burden it creates due to improper waste disposal.

Elsie Gabriel (Age: 56)
Founder of Young Environmentalists Programme Trust and National Coordinator Oceans Climate Reality Project, Elsie has spearheaded some of the most impactful environmental projects in the country. An award winning environmentalist and climate change consultant advocate, Elsie’s work aims to empower marginalized communities to become agents of change and work for ocean conservation. She’s inspired many to turn their gaze towards the oceans and protect then, and we are thrilled to have her as a part of #WomenClimateCollective. Join us to learn, grow and make an impact with Elsie.
