Considering the number of crimes taking place against women, the Maharashtra State Commission for Women (MSCW) has decided to take a concrete step towards women's safety.

On March 8, 2018, MSCW will be launching a counselling helpline for women in distress. It is said to be the first-of-its-kind service to be launched on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

However, the decision was taken seven months ago by MSCW chairperson Dr. Viajay Rahatkar but it will be launched on March 8 in MSCW’s office of Bandra’s MHADA Bhavan on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

Rahatkar added that the appointed counsellors will be answering calls of distressed women and will counsel them about their rights and issues. She further retorted that there will be two telephone lines available for the time being which initially will work from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm but in latter stages, it will be made available for 24 hours.
