On Global Recycling Day, Bisleri under its “Bottle for Change” campaign has announced that it will hold a series of initiatives across Thane to create awareness on plastic recycling on March 18. The Bins are specially designed to clean and segregate plastics separately.

Bisleri Bottles for Change has sent 200 tons of clean plastic for recycling after making citizens aware of changing habits. This program spreads awareness about correct ways of using and disposing of plastics by cleaning them after use and to be sent directly for recycling.

In the presence of Manisha Pradhan, Thane Pollution Control Officer and Ashwini Wagmale, Additional Commissioner with Bisleri’s Bottles for Change felicitated 50 Green Agents from Parisar Bhagini Vikas Sangh at Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on March 16.

Parisar Bhagini Vikas Sangh is an NGO that works towards nurturing and looking at the economic conditions of the Green Agents or rag pickers.

Bisleri’s Bottles for Change introduced special plastic collection bins and a bench towards a plastic recycling awareness drive. This was launched by Manisha Pradhan, who emphasized the need for this awareness across Thane.

“As one of the largest districts in India, TMC is happy to venture into this unique initiative creating awareness drives whose output leads to plastic collections by creating a change of habit. In addition, we are delighted to partner with more such NGOs who nurture ragpickers and together we can give them an earning,” said Manisha Pradhan.

Moreover, Pradhan and Wagmale also inaugurated a bench made of recycled plastic being made from 40kgs of multilayer plastic such as wrappers, used packaging material.

Anjana Ghosh, Director Marketing and Our Social Responsibility, Bisleri international said, “Bisleri is conscious of its environmental contribution and hence plastic recycling is one of the larger causes taken up by us. We have been making people aware in various parts of the country through seminars at housing societies, corporates and schools that plastic itself is not bad, it needs to be recycled. On the hand, it is the most easily recycled product that can be reused for multiple purposes and helps reduce energy and increase employment. All we need to do is change our habits and stop treating plastic as waste. We urge citizens to clean, segregate and help in recycling plastic.”

In seven cities across the country so far, Bisleri’s Bottles for Change has touched overall six lakh individuals, 800 housing societies, 500 corporates, 400 schools/ colleges, 500 hotels and restaurants across 600 awareness sessions educating people about recycling and has recycled more than 6500 tonnes of segregated plastic to be used across various manufacturing industries.
