In a significant development, it has come to light that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has razed down 36 unauthorised structures outside Charni railway station.

Additionally, the BMC also stated that it aims to beautify the 80 metre stretch adjoining the Charni Road station wall as part of its Mumbai Beautification Plan.

This step was taken a part of the civic body’s demolition drive against illegal buildings across Mumbai.

On Monday, September 26, a team of 80 officers from BMC’s D ward carried out a raid in the locality and identified several unauthorised buildings which have sprung up in the past four weeks that had been inconveniencing pedestrians. Hence, they were removed.

Besides, the civic officials also found old construction materials including debris dumped along the stretch that causing inconvenience to the public and pedestrians. Later, they called in dumpers to take away all the material.

For those unversed, BMC's inspections have recently identified several illegal structures in various zones in the city.

An official exclaimed that some of the wards have already started clearing them. All unauthorised buildings will be removed in a timely manner.
