Mumbai Metro Line 3's Cuffe Parade station, which will be underground, is all set to develop a mini-mall in the form of a sunken plaza and parking space. 

Sunken Plaza is a type of public space designed for various purposes such as social gathering, events. It is supposed to be at a lower level than its surroundings, creating a visually distinct and aesthetically pleasing environment. Moreover, it is typically sunken below ground level, often featuring steps, ramps, or slopes for access.

Design: The station will have three levels.

Mumbai Metro Line 3 project, which is a part of the Colaba-BKC-Aarey Corridor, will be inaugurated in phases between February and May 2024.

Once functional, it will help in clearing the traffic jam and also cover the distance between Nariman point and Worli in 10 minutes.

Recently, while addressing the media, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) Managing Director Ashwini Bhide said that Metro will be the lifeline of the city in the coming years, adding that they plan to extend the Metro services across the city by 2040. The MMRDA had prepared a plan with 14 lines covering 357 kilometre in 2004.

It is pertinent to note that Bhide has been leading the work on Metro 3 which is 33.5-km long.

Elaborating on the work progress of Metro 3, Bhide stated that Aarey to BKC, which is the first phase is in the last stage, will begin functioning in next few months. The BKC-Colaba second phase will begin six to seven months after first phase.
