Mumbaikars gear up for the proposed hike in taxi and auto fares as auto and taximen’s union has demanded the same. If the transport department approves the proposal, then auto fares will go up to ₹20 and taxi fares up to ₹25.

The Mumbai Taximen's Union has demanded ₹25 as the minimum taxi fare, following the hike of ₹3.44 in CNG rates. Auto unions have also proposed a fare hike of ₹2 and have submitted a memorandum to the transport department.

According to the sources, the department is planning to forward the proposals to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority for the final approval.

We have submitted the same proposal to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) but no decision has been taken so far. We are demanding fare hike because CNG rates have increased not once but thrice in one year,” A L Quadros, Mumbai Taximen's Union, President.
