Mumbai Attains Over The Average Rainfall For July In 12 Days

It is believed that in the last 24 hours, very heavy rainfall was witnessed in the catchment areas that propelled a 10 per cent increase in the aggregate water stock in one day.

In the aftermath of regular rainfall seen in the first 12 days of July, Mumbai received 885 mm of rainfall till Tuesday, July 12 morning which is over the 855 mm average for the entire month. In the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Santacruz observatory registered 62 mm rainfall, while the one at Colaba registered 32.8 mm rainfall, reports stated. 

On the other hand, an orange alert is in place by the IMD indicating heavy rainfall for Mumbai and Thane till Thursday. A red alert has however been issued during the same period in Palghar and Raigad. By the coming weekend, the IMD expects the rainfall to ease.

Based on accounts, the seven water-supplying lakes to Mumbai have filled up to 50 per cent of the needed amount for the season. It is believed that in the last 24 hours, very heavy rainfall was witnessed in the catchment areas that propelled a 10 per cent increase in the aggregate water stock in one day.

According to narratives, just a week ago the needed quantum was 10 per cent which now stands at 50 per cent. It has been reported that the aggregate water quantity till Tuesday is three times greater than that last year and two times more than in 2020.
