RBI to issue new ₹100 notes

After the introduction of the ₹200 and ₹50 notes, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will now issue the new ₹100 denomination banknotes. The announcement regarding the issue of the new note was made by the central bank on Thursday.

The new note will have the motif of the UNESCO World Heritage site, ‘Rani-Ki-Vav’ – a stepwell situated on the banks of Saraswati in Gujarat Patan – on the back. The base colour of the new denomination is lavender. It will be reportedly smaller than the current ₹100 note in dimensions (66 mm x 142 mm).

RBI said that after the introduction of the new note, its distribution to the public will gradually increase. In October last year, RBI had said that it would start printing the new notes around April 2018, after the printing of the new ₹200 notes is finished.
