In the first ten days of August, the vaccination numbers have witnessed a downward trend by 30%, reported the Times of India. Based on data, almost 40 lakh doses were given in the first and last ten days of July. Similarly, in August till the said date less than 28 lakh doses were given.

Reports state that Dr Pradeep Vyas the additional chief secretary elucidated that the numbers have fallen because the supply was limited. 8.26 lakh doses were received in August in the state. This shortage has resulted in the curtailment of the public vaccination drive in the city on August 12 and 13.

With the travel in local trains now dependent on citizens being fully vaccinated, it is expected that the demand for vaccines will further surge.

Accounts state that since the beginning of the inoculation drive, Maharashtra has always been a step ahead of the rest, with it having breached several milestones. According to the portal CoWin, Maharashtra has managed to administer 4.76 cr doses, cites the report.

Based on certain narratives, the state has gotten 3.7cr doses from the centre and bought 25 lakh on its own. The rest has been given by the private sector along with CSR. Additionally, 22% of the city’s eligible population of 90 lakh has been fully vaccinated.
