According to sources, the Tea and Coffee Association has decided to increase the price of cutting tea to ₹10.

With the outbreak of the coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown, several shops across the city have suffered due to the economic slowdown. As a result, the association has come to this decision.

Earlier, the price of cutting tea was ₹6 or ₹7, depending on where you are buying it from. There are about 5,000 registered tea vendors in Mumbai. Most of these vendors have their businesses along the roads. In the fourth phase of Unlock, many of these tea vendors resumed business.

Tea vendors, who are currently facing financial difficulties due to the pandemic, are sceptical of the response from the customers due to the fear of contracting the disease. As a solution to this, the association has announced special rules in order to combat the problem.

In view of the situation, the vendors are to spend more money on knots for plastic cups, sanitizers, disinfection of business premises, etc. Moreover, the price of tea leaves has also gone up. Therefore, tea sellers say that there is no option but to increase the rates in a bid to suffice.

Meanwhile, Mumbai in the last 24 hours, clocked 1,346 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally in the city to 1,58,756. Moreover, 42 people succumbed to the disease, taking the death toll to 7,939.
