In view of the pandemic, the BMC has set a target of conducting an average of 14,000 tests for the coronavirus per day.

Amidst the fourth phase of the Unlock, Mumbai has been experiencing hustle on the streets like before. As the local trains are still ferrying essential workers only, the people have taken to the roads in order to travel in their own private vehicles. Moreover, as Ganesh Chaturthi was celebrated in the city a couple of days back, Mumbai has been witnessing a rise in the daily count of COVID-19 cases.

As a result, the civic body has decided to ramp up the testing in the city. The BMC had earlier decided to conduct 4,000 tests per day in the months of May-June. Antigen tests were also initiated at that time. As a result, about 6,500 tests were performed daily. The municipal administration removed the condition of a doctor's recommendation for testing in July as well. This permitted coronavirus tests to be performed at home through 23 laboratories.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra has clocked 16,429 people testing positive for the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours taking the COVID-19 tally in the state to 9,23,641. Moreover, in a bid to battle the coronavirus, the Maharashtra government had announced that it is to conduct statewide door-to-door campaign from September 15 in two phases. On the other hand, Mumbai witnessed 1,788 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally to 1,57,410.
