The successful campaign launched by the BMC called “Chase the Virus” in Dharavi is now being implemented in high-rise buildings now due to the surge in COVID-19 cases.

Iqbal Singh Chahal, Municipal Commissioner, has further instructed the department officials to look for high-risk contacts in the buildings.

On Monday, September 7, the Municipal Commissioner had called a meeting with all the departmental officers through the audio-visual medium. The current state of coronavirus related morbidity in Mumbai was discussed. The commissioner further expressed displeasure over the slowdown in the search for high-risk contacts in the city in housing societies.

Back in March, with the outbreak of the coronavirus, the maximum number of patients were found in the slums of Mumbai, detecting a large number of high-risk contacts. This helped the civic body to contain the spread of the infection. The commissioner has directed that the same campaign should be carried out in the buildings now.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra has clocked 16,429 people testing positive for the coronavirus in the last 24 hours taking the COVID-19 tally in the state to 9,23,641. Moreover, in a bid to battle the coronavirus, the Maharashtra government has announced that it is to conduct statewide door-to-door campaign from September 15 in two phases.
