Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope expressed concern over the increasing coronavirus cases in the state. He said that the COVID-19 cases have been rising exponentially due to the unlocking process.

While speaking to the reporters, Tope said that the Maharashtra government was easing the lockdown restrictions under ‘Mission Begin Again’ to restart the economic activities across the state.

The minister said that the easing of lockdown restrictions has led to an increase in the coronavirus cases across Maharastra and the country. “People need to remain cautious. It has been learnt that nearly 30 per cent of the people didn’t wear masks,” Tope informed.

The Maharashtra government recently issued fresh guidelines for Unlock 4.0 under the ‘Mission Begin Again’. It has dropped the requirement of e-pass for inter-district travel and has provided relaxations to private offices and businesses.

Tope also pointed out that the central government has refused to provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits, face masks and ventilators. The minister expressed his disappointment over the same and said that the centre has sent a letter saying that they won’t be able to provide the same.

Stating that the centre can’t withdraw its support to states, Tope informed that he has spoken to Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar and will write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.

Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government was all set to expand tele-ICU (Intensive Care Unit) services across the state to provide timely treatment to coronavirus patients. Tope informed that with the tele-ICU projects, the administration is making efforts to prevent COVID-19 related deaths.
