Amidst the coronavirus crisis, the legislators of Maharashtra are to meet at the Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai for a two-day monsoon session, which happens to be the first since the outbreak.

However, at least two MLAs and 37 government staffers who were to attend the monsoon session have tested positive for the coronavirus. As per reports, 2,200 people were tested which includes legislators and government officials, although some of the reports are yet to be received.

The Legislature Secretariat has put in place an array of measures for the two-day session. Inside the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council, germicidal ultraviolet machines and ozone generators have been installed to maintain a sterile environment. Moreover, a special disinfectant coating is being carried out on the furniture and other equipment in a bid to contain the spread of the contagious disease.

The legislators will also be handed over a PPE kit in order to safeguard themselves. Also, as a result of the pandemic, the customary tea party has been cancelled.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra has clocked 23,350 cases of the coronavirus which propelled the COVID-19 tally in the state to 9,07,212. Moreover, the positivity rate, recovery rate, and fatality rate in the state stand at 19.52 per cent, 71.03 per cent, and 2.93 per cent respectively.
