In a recently taken decision, the state government of Maharashtra has decided to give a two-day extension to students wishing to apply for the Common Entrance Test (CET). Accordingly, candidates will be able to submit online applications until September 8, 2020. This decision has come as a great relief to thousands of students who have not been able to apply for the examinations yet, due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Observing the difficulties, Minister of State for Medical Education, Rajendra Patil Yadravkar, had demanded an extension from the Department of Higher and Technical Education, which was approved by the officials.

As per reports, students from rural areas were not able to fill the forms within the given timeframe and understanding their plight, the written permission was sought from the Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education, Uday Samant, requesting him to extend the deadline for filing applications. He approved the demand in the interest of the students and directed the Commissioner of State Common Entrance Examination to extend the period.

Based on this revision, CET application forms, for all the courses, for the academic year, 2020-21 have to be filled by September 7 and 8, 2020 and the decision is said to benefit thousands of students.

Some parts of Maharashtra are currently under a lockdown until September 31, 2020, however, amidst the Unlock 4.0 initiative, certain activities have been permitted for public benefits. As of September 6, 2020, the state witnessed the highest single-day jump with more than 23,000 COVID19 cases, taking the tally to over 9-lakh cases.
