The Maharashtra government has announced the establishment of an additional collector’s office and two new tehsil offices in Thane as part of measures aimed at strengthening revenue administration and improving the delivery of public services. The decision was announced by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on July 29 during the ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Maharajasva Samadhan Shibir’ organised in Thane. It was stated that the new offices would be created to improve the functioning of the revenue administration and make government-related services more accessible to residents.
The Maharajasva campaign was described by the minister as an example of people-centric and fast-track governance. It was stated that nearly 76,000 families across Thane district had received direct benefits under various government schemes through the initiative.
According to Bawankule, the campaign had been implemented through coordination between the revenue, health, agriculture, women and child development, animal husbandry, sports and tribal development departments. The Thane district administration was appreciated for coordinating the delivery of services and benefits through the participating departments. A series of infrastructure-related decisions for Thane and Palghar districts was also announced at the programme. Land is to be allocated for the establishment of a medical college in Ambernath and a Navodaya Vidyalaya. Proposals for an agricultural unit, a modern convention centre and coastal development projects were also outlined.
Several changes related to revenue and land administration were highlighted during the event. The mandatory requirement for Non-Agricultural permission is to be removed, while the fragmentation law is proposed to be withdrawn. Legal property rights are also expected to be provided to around one lakh families in Thane who own small plots on which structures were constructed before October 15, 2023. These properties are proposed to be covered through a regularisation process.
Plans for issuing formal property cards to flat owners were also announced. A comprehensive modern Land Titling Act is proposed to be introduced during the upcoming winter session of the Maharashtra legislature. Thane Collector Dr. Shrikrishna Panchal stated that approximately 76,000 beneficiaries had been covered during the first phase of the Maharajasva campaign. Benefits provided under the initiative included land rights granted to tribal communities under forest laws and free sand allocation rights distributed to eligible beneficiaries.
Certificates and benefits under various government schemes were formally distributed to eligible citizens across different categories during the programme.
