While Maharashtra has witnessed a surge in the cases of coronavirus, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday, July 27, appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend the supply of face masks and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to Maharashtra even after the proposed deadline in September.

The CM in a statement has said that the state has been receiving N95 masks and PPE kits, however, the existing deadline for the supply is the till the end of September. This has to be extended in view of the coronavirus situation in Maharashtra so that the spread of the disease can be contained. Thackeray while attending the launch of high throughput COVID-19 testing facilities by the ICMR laboratories in Mumbai, Kolkata and Noida through video-conferencing, has stated that the extension is absolutely necessary so that he can focus on extending the medical facilities and treatment to the patients suffering from the coronavirus in the state.

Thackeray had earlier asked the task force members from various districts to remain in constant communication with the state-level task force to make necessary changes in the COVID-19 containment plan further adding that proper and timely medical treatment should be given to the patients suffering from the coronavirus in all rural areas and the districts to the urban areas of Maharashtra. Furthermore, the task force doctors from various districts interacted with the Mumbai state task force doctors through video conferencing. The task forces have been set up in all the districts as per the instructions of the Chief Minister.

On this occasion, the CM stated that the idea is to reduce the death rate to zero. There should be uniformity in all the districts in terms of exactly how the treatments are being given. In view of this, the joint meeting between the task forces in the districts and the task forces in Mumbai had been organized.
