In recent developments, the online admissions for first-year junior college are to resume on November 26 in Maharashtra.
As per reports, students who have applied under the Maratha quota can change category. Moreover, all students can change college preferences up to December 1, 2020. Meanwhile, the second merit list will be available on December 5, at 11 am. The admissions are touted to continue up to December 9, 2020.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had earlier given the nod to resume the admissions in the state after taking in opinion from the state’s Advocate General Ashutosh Kumbhakoni, according to sources. The state officials had stated that the education department of the state has redrawn the seat matrix and all required clearances are now in place. While Maratha outfits remain keen on the implementation of the quota in college admissions from this year, the state government has decided that waiting for the stay to be lifted will be detrimental for students.
Earlier on Tuesday, November 24, the Bombay High Court had asked the Maharashtra government to clarify its stand by Thursday, November 26 regarding the FYJC admissions.
The division bench consisting of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Girish Kulkarni asked as to why the admissions had not been concluded and were being postponed for over two and a half months. Moreover, the judges pointed that the petition regarding the same was first heard on October 27 and later on November 9, however, no positive response has come up from the state government in spite of it up until now.
