In an attempt to initiate damage control, Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Maharashtra wing has banned three of its spokesperson from interacting with media after their controversial statements. BJP members Ram Kadam, Avadhut Wagh, and Madhu Chavan have been forbidden by their political party from addressing the media after the three of them were involved in controversies on different occasions.

After the statements hurt public sentiments and were said to be offensive and unnecessary, BJP barred them from the position of party spokesperson.

During a Dahi Handi event, Ram Kadam had told a person in the crowd, “I will help you hundred per cent. Bring your parents first and if they like the girl, we will arrange her for you.” After which, Kadam was served notice by State Women’s Commission. Later, he had issued an apology for his statement.

On the other hand, Madhu Chavan was accused of rape by a woman recently. The 57-year-old woman from Chavan’s educational institution claimed that during 2000-2007, the MHADA Chairman had promised to marry her and after which, he had sexually assaulted her by fooling her into his promises.

Meanwhile, Avadhut Wagh had called Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the eleventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. This statement had created a controversy and various senior leaders along with several people were left offended.

Accordingly, bearing the 2019 elections in mind, the political party has stopped the leaders from addressing the media. Also, the statements had tarnished the party’s image and removing them from the position of party spokesperson seemed like a viable option.
