Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) Mumbai Board Chairman Madhu Chavan has been accused of sexual assault along with fraud and a case has been filed against him for the same. A woman from his educational institute in Chiplun has filed the case against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader.
The 57-year-old woman from Chavan’s educational institution claimed that during 2000-2007, the MHADA Chairman had promised to marry her and after which, he had sexually assaulted her by fooling her into his promises. The lady had filed a complaint in 2012 and 2017.
However, even after filing a complaint twice, there was no proper investigation from police. Due to which, the woman approached the court and accordingly, the court ordered Chiplun Police to take action according to the complaint. The police then booked Chavan under the charges of rape and fraud.
When Mumbai Live contacted Madhu Chavan, the BJP leader said that all these allegations against him are false and he is being wrongly accused. He also stated that he is ready for any investigation and claims that he is innocent.
Chavan further added that he had recently been elected for the post of Chairman of MHADA’s Mumbai Board. The case was filed after a few days of his election and so, he feels that this is an attempt to tarnish his image. He said that he came to know about the allegation in 2012 and a case is ongoing in the case about the same.
