Amid the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC), Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday said that the resolutions in other states against the newly amended citizenship law have been passed because they are ruled by one party.

Ajit Pawar said that the non-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ruled state like Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan and West Bengal could pass resolutions against CAA as they are governed by one party, unlike Maharashtra.

“States like Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan and West Bengal have passed resolutions against the Citizenship Amendment Act. They are ruled by one party, unlike Maharashtra. We think that there will be no problem for anyone in the state due to CAA and NRC. Our Chief Minister has also said so,” Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said.

This comes amid the demand for a resolution against CAA in Maharashtra. The people protesting in parts of Maharashtra have been demanding the state government to bring a resolution in the state assembly against CAA.

The West Bengal government on Monday passed a resolution in the state assembly against the newly amended citizenship law. The resolution was moved by Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.

Earlier, the non-BJP states including Kerala, Punjab and Rajasthan have passed a resolution against CAA. West Bengal on Monday became the fourth state to do the same.

However, it seems that Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government is unsure about bringing resolution against the CAA.
