Soon after the union budget, all eyes are now on the BMC Budget 2021-22. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) budget 2021-22 for Mumbai is scheduled to be presented before the standing committee at 2 pm on Wednesday, February 3. It will be presented by BMC's Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal.

Focus on health

Just like in the Union Budget it is expected that there will be a lot of focus on the health segment in BMC's budget too. The year 2020 has been all about dealing with coronavirus pandemic and the city would be looking at beefing up its healthcare infrastructure and also setting aside monies for the current vaccination drive.

Property Tax and other

Many experts believe that a revision of property tax can be ruled out in BMC Budget 2021-22. Given that this is an election year for BMC, it is also being pegged that no new taxes would be imposed. Furthermore, it is also pegged that there would there be any increase in the existing taxes.

Coastal Road Project

It is also expected that the pet project of the Maharashtra government - Coastal Road Project may get substantial funding. The tunnelling work for the project started in January. It had been delayed to the coronavirus pandemic and the government is looking at expediting this project and hence this project may get a mention in the budget that is to be presented today.
