According to a report released by Hurun India, the number of billionaires and middle class families has increased in the country. Hurun India on Tuesday, March 16, 2021, released the Wealth Report for 2020 which states that Mumbai is the 'richest city' in the country. 

Data suggests that there are 16,933 billionaires in Mumbai, and there are 4.12 lakh new billionaires and 6.33 lakh new middle class families in the country. Furthermore, among the new billionaires, 3,000 families had a net worth of over INR 1,000 crore and have been included in the 'super rich' category. The above-mentioned billionaires account for 6.16 per cent of the country's GDP. 

New middle class families have an average annual savings of INR 20 lakh, and the number of ordinary middle class is INR 5.64 crore. Their annual income has been reported as INR 2.5 lakh with total wealth is less than INR 7 crore. 

Report states that there are 16,000 billionaires in New Delhi and 10,000 in Kolkata; and Maharashtra ranks first among the states with 56,000 rich people. This is followed by Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Gujarat.

The survey was conducted by Hurun India which states that the rich prefer real estate and stock market as best tools for investing; and also prefer Britain after Switzerland and USA for foreign travel. It is said that US has been everyone's choice to invest after Singapore and the UAE, and is also the favored destination for education abroad.
