Pharmed Limited and BioPlus Group have announced the passing of Mr. Krishan Kumar Aurora, a towering figure in the Indian pharmaceutical industry, on December 23, 2024. Mr. Aurora, who served as Chairman Emeritus of Pharmed Limited, was 88 years old. Known for his humility, determination, and visionary leadership, Mr. Aurora played a transformative role in reshaping the pharmaceutical landscape in India. Under his stewardship, Pharmed Limited and BioPlus Group became benchmarks for innovation, quality, and excellence, earning the trust of healthcare providers across the country.
Mr. Aurora’s career, which spanned over six decades, began after his graduation from Bombay University. Starting as an accountant with A.F. Fergusons and Boots Pure Drug Co. (India) Ltd., he later joined Smith Kline & French (India) Ltd. in 1961. Rising through the ranks, he became Managing Director and eventually International Vice President for Southeast Asia.
In 1973, he joined the Executive Committee of the Organization of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI), where he spearheaded initiatives addressing critical industry challenges. His leadership also extended to the Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (1988-89), where he initiated key reforms, including the establishment of the Chamber's first office in Bengaluru and advocating for tax reliefs for captive power generation. Mr. Aurora took over Pharmed Limited in 1990, transforming it into one of the most respected names in the Indian pharmaceutical sector. In 2023, the Karnataka Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Manufacturers Association recognized his lifetime contributions, celebrating his relentless pursuit of excellence.
Mr. Aurora is survived by his sons, Sundeep, Sunjeev, and Suneet Aurora, who continue to lead Pharmed Limited and BioPlus Group. His visionary contributions to the pharmaceutical industry remain a source of inspiration for generations to come.
