Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will issue a new ₹20 currency note with additional features. The central bank, in a document, mentioned that soon it will introduce a new currency note of the existing denomination.
After introducing new denominations of ₹2,000 and ₹200, RBI had issued new currency notes of ₹10, ₹50, ₹100, and ₹500 with different features.
Earlier in November 2016, the new notes of the existing currency were introduced under Mahatma Gandhi (New) series and they are different in size and design. All currency notes except the demonetised old currency notes of ₹500 and ₹1,000 are legal tender.

According to RBI data, the number of ₹20 notes in circulation was 4.92 billion on March 31, 2016. However, the numbers increased to 10 billion by March 2018.
