In a massive firefighting operation on Tuesday morning, the Mumbai Fire Department deployed a high-tech 'fire robot' to douse a massive fire that broke out in the basement of the Croma showroom in Bandra (West).
The MFB declared a Level-IV fire at 6:25 am as the intensity of the fire increased in the multi-storey Link Square Mall located on Linking Road No. 33. According to officials, the fire started in the basement of the Croma showroom, which was located in one of the three basements of the G+3 mall, and caused a large amount of smoke to spread throughout the building.
As visibility was reduced by smoke, the firefighting robot navigated the hazardous environment and launched a water jet without causing harm. These robots are specifically designed to work in high-temperature, low-visibility zones and are equipped with cameras, sensors, and high-capacity water nozzles.
There are no reports of any casualties or injuries so far. Multiple agencies were deployed at the scene, including the Municipal Corporation's MFB, local ward staff, Mumbai Police, Adani Electricity and Public Works Department staff.
Dozens of fire engines, hydraulic platforms and two robotic firefighting units known as "Robert-02" were deployed to contain the fire.
The operation was underway with 12 motor pumps and three hose lines in active use this morning. The cause of the fire is under investigation and officials have said a detailed report will be issued later. The use of firefighting robots shows that Mumbai is gradually using more technology to help in emergencies like fires. This technology helps in faster response in emergencies.
