In line with the Lok Sabha General Elections 2024, the Election Commission of India will provide more facilities through the 'Saksham' app launched by the Election Commission of India to facilitate the voting process for persons with more than 40 percent disability and senior citizens who have completed 85 years of age.


Introduction of many types of facilities

On this 'Saksham' app for Divyang voters, registration as Divyang, new voter registration, transfer of vote from one place to another, request to change polling station and wheelchair, searching name in voter list, knowing polling station, facilities like registering complaint, finding polling officer, checking booth locator status etc. have been provided. There are a total of 8 thousand 46 disabled voters in Raigarh parliamentary constituency. Of these, 2 thousand 933 are female voters and 5 thousand 133 are male voters.


Blindness, low vision, deafness, hearing loss, physical disability, mental illness (psychosocial disability), leprosy, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, dwarfism, muscular dystrophy, acid attack victims, speech and language disability, specific learning disability, autism, Individuals with spectrum disorders, chronic neurological disorders including multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease, blood disorders including haemophilia, thalassemia and sickle cell anaemia, and multiple disabilities can enrol.

According to the guidelines of the Election Commission, polling stations for the disabled will be on the ground floor at all places in the district. Polling stations have drinking water, waiting sheds, medical kits, accessible toilets, adequate electric lighting, ramps and wheelchair facilities at stations, priority entry facilities for disabled, senior citizens, separate queuing facilities, standard signs and sign boards. 


Help from volunteers will be available at the polling station. Braille and assistive facility is also available on EVMs for registering votes of visually and physically challenged voters.
