10 Tejaswini Buses Hits The Road In Thane

Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) officials stated that there will be more 50 Tejaswini buses which will ply on 10 routes in Thane within 15 days. The bus is 27-seater and costs ₹27 lakhs per bus.

Tejaswini buses were rolled out especially for women commuters have finally hit the roads in Thane.  Thane Municipal Transport (TMT) authorities stated that 10 Tejaswini buses will ply only for women during peak hours and during the day for other commuters. 

The buses are equipped with CCTV Cameras and a panic button. It was planned to have women as bus conductors and driver but as the training process of more than 100 women is still underway, there are currently male drivers and conductors.

TMT officials further stated that there will be more 50 Tejaswini buses which will ply on 10 routes in Thane within 15 days. The bus is 27-seater and costs ₹27 lakhs per bus. The bus is in yellow colour and has been started with the aim of providing safe and comfortable travel for women commuters. Notably, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) had already started 10 air-conditioned Tejaswini buses since last year. The Maharashtra government had provided a subsidy of ₹11.50 crores to BEST for Tejaswini buses. 

Moreover, the state government had announced to allot around 300 buses in cities such as Mumbai, Navi-Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nagpur and Kalyan-Dombivli. Each city has been allotted 50 women-only buses by the state government. You can check out Mumbaikars view on this women's special bus- here
