Commuters travelling on the Samruddhi Mahamarg have been facing major inconvenience since its inception due to the lack of toilets, petrol pumps and food and water facilities, which significantly reduces the travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur.

Now, a report has said that the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is set to commission 22 food plazas in the next three months.

According to a reports, eight of these 22 plazas are already operational, while the remaining 14 will be commissioned in the next three months.

Eight functional food plazas have been started on both sides at Vargadi and Maral, while one-way food plazas are also operational at Mandwa, Waifal, Manakpur and Amne.

According to the report, work is currently underway to commission food plazas on opposite sides at Manakpur, Mandwa, Waifal and Amne.

Apart from this, food plazas will be set up on both sides at other places including Dawla, Ganeshpur, Shivni, Tathod Akhtwara, Davha, Dongaon, Pokhari, Anantpur and Kadavanchi.

Once all these 22 food plazas are operational, it is expected that travelling on the Mumbai-Nagpur expressway will become more convenient for commuters.

Also, there are complaints from citizens about the lack of facilities like toilets, drinking water, petrol pumps and even food.

Earlier, the MSRDC had planned to set up only 16 food plazas on both sides of the expressway and had also floated tenders for the same. However, the plan was stalled from 2023 due to lack of response.

After receiving the response to the tenders, work on the food plazas began, taking the total number of food plazas on the highway from 16 to 22.
