The hospital administration, which was shocked to learn that two patients at Cooper Hospital were bitten by rats in three days, has installed traps and sticky traps in the patient rooms through the officers of the K West Ward. More than 15 rats have been caught in these traps in a single day, raising the question of whether the hospital rooms are for rats or for patients.

Three days after it was discovered that rats were roaming freely on patients' beds in the women's ward at Cooper Hospital, two female patients were bitten by rats. This has raised serious concerns about cleanliness and patient safety at Cooper Hospital. Taking note of the issue, BMC Additional Commissioner Vipin Sharma has directed the pest control officer of the K/West ward to visit Cooper Hospital daily and inspect the implementation of necessary measures.

Following the instructions given by the pesticide officials, the entire hospital premises have been inspected and the bugs found in all the walls and corners have been eradicated. Also, nets are being installed to prevent rats from entering sewage pipes. Cages and sticky traps have been installed in women's wards to catch rats. More than 15 rats were caught in this cage placed in the women's wards on Sunday in one day.

Committee of inquiry into rat problem

A preliminary committee of inquiry has been formed to find out why the rat problem arose and what long-term solutions should be found. Through this committee, the monitoring system has been tightened to ensure that relatives of patients and visiting citizens do not throw garbage anywhere except in designated areas and trash cans to prevent a recurrence of rats.
