In an unfortunate mishap, five people were drowned in the sea at Juhu Beach in Mumbai on Monday evening, June 12, clarified the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). 

Out of five teenagers, one have been rescued by public members while four of them are still missing.

The incident took place at Juhu Koliwada in Santacruz (West) around 5.30 pm this evening, as per preliminary information.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials stated that the search operation is in progress to rescue the remaining people drowned in the sea.

As soon as the incident was reported, BMC's Mumbai Fire Brigade team, Mumbai police, ward staff and ambulance reached the spot immediately.

If reports are to be believed, Juhu beach has been closed off with life guards and patrolling underway.

It is pertinent to note that an alert and warning has been issued in the city regarding due to strong winds and high tide waves on Mumbai coastline along with possibility of heavy rains in view of Cyclone Biparjoy.

Moreover, owing to the strong winds effect, Mumbai's Girgaon Chowpatty witnessed a deserted view today.

In addition, the NDRF have have deployed two teams in addition to the already available three teams in Mumbai as a precautionary measure. Further, they have moved 4 other teams to Gujarat and Pune.
