In a fatal incident, a 20-year-old worker Shivam Jaiswal died after part of vehicle lift crumbled down in Vikhroli area of Mumbai.

The accident took place on Wednesday, January 4, at 1.40 pm while the installation of the elevator was underway at Siddhivinayak Society, according to an officer of the Mumbai Fire Brigade.

Officials further stated that after the structure gave way, four people got trapped. However, three eventually came out safely.

About an hour later, a badly injured Jaiswal was rescued by the fire brigade which used a crane to lift the rubble. He was rushed to the civic-run Rajawadi Hospital but was declared brought dead, officials exclaimed.

Meanwhile, a resident of the residential building, the 24 floor building had been constructed under a slum rehabilitation Authority (SRA) initiative.

They lived in the same building throughout and this incident occurred when the builder is constructing an elevated parking on the 23rd level. Work on the elevator was taking place when this incident happened. THE SRA should also take action in this matter.

They have written a letter to the local police station demanding strict action. According to residents who spoke to those who were trapped under the rubble, no engineer was present at the site, the resident added.
