In a tragic incident, three people died after a speeding car collided with a cargo truck on the Mumbai-Pune expressway on Friday morning, March 17.

Police said the accident took place around 7.30 am near the Talegaon toll plaza on the busy carriageway.

According to reports, they were travelling towards Mumbai from Pune when their speeding car collided with a cargo truck from behind resulting in the death of all three passengers in the car.

It hit a loaded stationary truck, which was parked on the roadside. All three occupants, all male, died on the spot, said a police official from Shirgaon police station.

He said the impact was so powerful that the car nearly went under the truck. The victims had to be extricated from the wreckage by emergency services by the medical team.

It is pertinent to note that a six-month campaign was launched by the Regional Transport Office (RTO), which aimed at reducing traffic violations in December 2022. The program began on December 1 and it will continue until the end of May.
