The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has taken a major step towards sustainability by installing solar power systems in civic-run schools. The initiative began with School No. 62 in Patharli, Dombivli East.

Commissioner Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar inaugurated the system during the Gudi Padwa festival. The project will reduce electricity costs and promote green energy. KDMC built this school using corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds. Regency Nirmal Group funded the INR 2 lakh installation at School No. 62.

More schools will soon get solar power. KDMC plans to install similar systems in 59 other civic-run schools in the coming months. The corporation plans to seek financial support from businesses, builders, and NGOs to install solar energy systems. Many corporate firms and social organisations have come forward to support the project under CSR.

The school now runs on a four-kilowatt solar plant. It is the first school in Kalyan Dombivli to operate entirely on solar energy. KDMC has made solar installation mandatory for new buildings and is investing in similar projects across the city.

In a report by FPJ, executive engineer Prashant Bhagwat said the goal is to improve education and school infrastructure. He mentioned that solar power systems will soon be installed in all other civic schools.

Social organisations and developers have been contacted to support this effort. As per reports, all civic schools will have solar systems within two months with public participation.
